Exotic and Interesting Foods Offered at Music Festivals.

Andy Robertson

The wide variety of food and beverage options often found at music festivals is usually the result of organisers trying to offer options that fit well with the event's overall ethos. What can festival-goers expect to see from food vendors this year that will provide alternatives to the usual fast-food offerings.

The traditional burger and chips available from mobile vans is becoming less popular with festival organisers who are now making more selective vendor choices with a preference for healthy options and menus that bring something new and different. The burger vans will still be present, but festival-goers have a tendency to be more adventurous and like to experience alternative foods not found in supermarkets and restaurants.

Exotic Foods.
For western tastes some foods found in Asian countries can be strange particularly Insect-based foods and these are making more regular appearances at music festivals. These can include cricket tacos, ant candy or scorpion lollipops for example. These snacks or delicacies are not uncommon on the streets of Bangkok or Phnom Penh and offer a sustainable protein source that are gaining traction as alternative healthy foods.

Healthy Options.
Eating healthy foods from sustainable sources is being promoted by government agencies to change eating habits that help prevent obesity and other health related problems. Many vendors present at festivals now offer vegan, vegetarian and organic options. Also, becoming more popular are plant-based foods like jackfruit tacos, vegan sushi, or quinoa bowls which have great sustainability credentials.

Ethnic Foods.

Foods from different cultures and countries are popular alternatives and festival organisers sometimes select vendors that offer ethnic foods that match the music genres and audience profiles. Popular cuisines at festivals can include Korean BBQ, Thai curry and Indian street food for example. These options allow visitors to experience more authentic street food varieties which can be very different to those found in a traditional high street restaurant.

Alternative Beverages.
Craft beers are proving very popular at music festivals as they have a superior taste and great sustainability credentials as well as supporting local communities. In addition to the craft beers other exotic drinks on offer may include craft cocktails, locally produced wine from nearby vineyards and hard seltzers, a type of alcoholic soda water.

Festival organisers are always looking to select food and beverage vendors that provide good menu choices with a focus on healthy options and sustainable sourced ingredients as these fit well with the event's overall ethos. Even the traditional fast foods are changing with vendors now offering gourmet burgers and hot dogs with exotic toppings like truffle oil, foie gras, kimchi, pickled vegetables or sriracha sauce for example.

For festival organisers planning their events using a software management platform like Festival Pro gives them all the functionality they need manage every aspect of their event logistics including a dedicated vendor management module. The guys who are responsible for this software have been in the front line of event management for many years and the features are built from that experience and are performance artists themselves. The Festival Pro platform is easy to use and has comprehensive features with specific modules for managing artists, contractors, venues/stages, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, guestlists, ticketing, cashless payments and contactless ordering.
